Atonement

I grew up in the church and I didn’t really understand what the Atonement was until about 10 years ago.  I have always had a hard time trying to figure who I am.  I always knew I was child of God but I didn’t really understand how one truly repents and what it entails.  I have really thought about more since I started school over again because of the Institute classes of which I am taking.  This has helped me more fully understand the gospel and the aspects of what we are taught.  I feel I have been able to understand the Atonement more as I have read addresses given by General Authorities and in the Scriptures. I am grateful for the Atonement and how it has helped my life.  I know that as we are baptized into the Church that this is a part of that, and we should always remember Him and keep His commandments which He has given us, so that we can always have His spirit to be with us.  I am grateful for this and what we can do to become better.

"In a moment of weakness we may cry out, “No one knows what it is like. No one understands.” But the Son of God perfectly knows and understands, for He has felt and borne our individual burdens." David A. Bednar, April 2014 General Conference, "Bear Up Their Burdens with Ease"

"Remember: the heavens will not be filled with those who never made mistakes."  Dieter F. Uchtdorf, April 2008 General Conference "A Matter of a Few Degrees"

".....however late you think you are, however many chances you think you have missed, however many mistakes you feel you have made or talents you think you don’t have, or however far from home and family and God you feel you have traveled, I testify that you have not traveled beyond the reach of divine love. It is not possible for you to sink lower than the infinite light of Christ’s Atonement shines."Jeffrey R. Holland, April 2012 General Conference "The Laborers in the Vineyard"

"The Atonement of Jesus Christ provides the cleanser necessary to be made pure and clean,.." Elder David A. Bednar, October 2014 General Conference "Come and See"

"Though you may feel that no one can understand the depth of your despair, our Savior, Jesus Christ, understands."Dieter F. Uchtdorf, April 2010 General Conference "Your Happily Ever After"

"It would be a difficult world to live in if we could never be forgiven for our mistakes.." Boyd K Packer, October 2014 General Conference "The Reason for Our Hope"

"Remember, repentance is not punishment. It is the hope-filled path to a more glorious future." Richard G. Scott, October 2013 General Conference "Personal Strength through the Atonement of Jesus Christ"

"He allowed His Son to provide, by His atoning sacrifice, the hope that comforts us no matter how hard the way home to Him may be." Henry B Eyring, April 2015 General Conference "The  Comforter"

"Pondering the grandeur of the Atonement evokes the most profound feelings of awe, immense gratitude, and deep humility." Richard G. Scott, October 2006 General Conference "The Atonement Can Secure Your Peace and Happiness"

"Everyone loses his or her way at some point, to some degree. It is through the promptings of the Holy Ghost that we can be brought safely back onto the right path, and it is the atoning sacrifice of the Savior that can return us home." M. Russell Ballard, April 2012 General Conference, "That the Lost May Be Found"

"Thankfully, Jesus Christ courageously fulfilled this sacrifice in ancient Jerusalem. There in the quiet isolation of the Garden of Gethsemane, He knelt among the gnarled olive trees, and in some incredible way that none of us can fully comprehend, the Savior took upon Himself the sins of the world. Even though His life was pure and free of sin, He paid the ultimate penalty for sin—yours, mine, and everyone who has ever lived. His mental, emotional, and spiritual anguish were so great they caused Him to bleed from every pore (see Luke 22:44; D&C 19:18). And yet Jesus suffered willingly so that we might all have the opportunity to be washed clean—through having faith in Him, repenting of our sins, being baptized by proper priesthood authority, receiving the purifying gift of the Holy Ghost by confirmation, and accepting all other essential ordinances. Without the Atonement of the Lord, none of these blessings would be available to us, and we could not become worthy and prepared to return to dwell in the presence of God."  M. Russell Ballard, April 2004 General Conference, "The Atonement and the Value of One Soul"

"The power of the Atonement makes repentance possible and quells the despair caused by sin; it also strengthens us to see, do, and become good in ways that we could never recognize or accomplish with our limited mortal capacity. Truly, one of the great blessings of devoted discipleship is “the peace of God, which passeth all understanding”(Philippians 4:7)." David A. Bednar, April 2015 General Conference, "Therefore They Hushed Their Fears"
