Prayer

Prayer is a way we communicate with our Father in Heaven.  He wants us to pray and talk with to Him.  He wants to hear from us about our daily lives and about our worries and tragedies.  It is a way that we can turn to Him when we are in need, to give thanks, to ask questions or for guidance.  We can also receive revelation through prayer from our Heavenly Father.  Our Father in Heaven hears EVERY prayer, and he cares about you personally to answer whenever you need an answer.  He wants us to commune with Him day and night.  He will always listen and answer in the way that will benefit our lives the most and help us in our eternal progression.

"Pray to your Heavenly Father. This is His sacred work. He will guide you in what to do. He will open doors, remove roadblocks, and help you overcome obstacles." Neil L. Andersen, April 2013 General Conference, "It's a Miracle"

"Choose to converse with your Father in Heaven often. Make time every day to share your thoughts and feelings with Him."  Richard G. Scott, October 2014 General Conference, "Make the Exercise of Faith Your First Priority"

"Often, the answer to our prayer does not come while we’re on our knees but while we’re on our feet serving the Lord and serving those around us."  Deiter F. Uchtdorf, April 2011 General Conference, "Waiting on the Road to Damascus"

"If prayer is only a spasmodic cry at the time of crisis, then it is utterly selfish, and we come to think of God as a repairman or a service agency to help us only in our emergencies. We should remember the Most High day and night—always—not only at times when all other assistance has failed and we desperately need help." Howard W.  Hunter, October 1977 General Conference, "Hallowed Be Thy Name"

"We need not just one flash of light and comfort, but we need the continuing blessing of communication with God."  Henry B. Eyring, October 2014 General Conference, "Continuing Revelation"

"We may not know when or how the Lord’s answers will be given, but in His time and His way, I testify, His answers will come." Robert D. Hales, October 2011 General Conference, "Waiting Upon the Lord: Thy Will Be Done"

"No Father would send His children off to a distant, dangerous land for a lifetime of testing where Lucifer was known to roam free without first providing them with a personal power of protection. He would also supply them with means to communicate with Him from Father to child and from child to Father. Every child of our Father sent to earth is provided with the Spirit of Christ, or the Light of Christ." Boyd K Packer, October 2009 General Conference, "Prayer and Promptings"

"We should pray in accord with the will of our Heavenly Father. He wants to test us, to strengthen us, and to help us achieve our full potential. When the Prophet Joseph Smith was held in Liberty Jail, he pled for relief. His prayers were answered with an explanation: “All these things shall give thee experience, and shall be for thy good."  Russell M. Nelson, April 2003 General Conference, "Sweet Power of Prayer"

"When Jesus prayed to his father in humility, faith, and obedience for others, his Father answered. When he prayed for strength and comfort in his hour of greatest need and took upon himself the sins of the world and gave his atoning sacrifice, that upon repentance we could enjoy the miracle of forgiveness, his Father answered. He is your Father; pray to him. If your life is in disarray and you feel uncomfortable and unworthy to pray because you are not clean, don’t worry. He already knows about all of that. He is waiting for you to kneel in humility and take the first few steps. Pray for strength. Pray for others to be led to support you and guide you and lift you. Pray that the love of the Savior will pour into your heart. Pray that the miracle of the Atonement will bring forgiveness because you are willing to change."  Richard G. Scott, October 1988 General Conference, "True Friends That Lift"

"Don’t worry about your clumsily expressed feelings. Just talk to your compassionate, understanding Father. You are His precious child whom He loves perfectly and wants to help. As you pray, recognize that Father in Heaven is near and He is listening.
A key to improved prayer is to learn to ask the right questions. Consider changing from asking for the things you want to honestly seeking what He wants for you. Then as you learn His will, pray that you will be led to have the strength to fulfill it.
Should you ever feel distanced from our Father, it could be for many reasons. Whatever the cause, as you continue to plead for help, He will guide you to do that which will restore your confidence that He is near. Pray even when you have no desire to pray. Sometimes, like a child, you may misbehave and feel you cannot approach your Father with a problem. That is when you most need to pray. Never feel you are too unworthy to pray."  Richard G. Scott, April 2007 General Conference, "Using the Supernal Gift of Prayer"
